Fine Art- The Chameleon Project Part 1

This project in fine art is based around a person changing their opinions or behaviours according to the situation, hence the title, 'Chameleon Project'. Our first task was to bring in a selection of symbolic or significant objects in a suitcase to sketch. These objects could be things like favourite childhood toys, photo albums, favourite band merchandise e.t.c.

One of the objects I brought in was a picture I drew of a horse in year 9, I used oil pastels to achieve the vibrant colours created by artists such as Roger Dean for album covers.

I started with a piece of red chalk, mapping out the shape of the suitcase ready for adding in the rest of the objects. I drew the rest out first in black chalk, adding in little bits of shading in places.....

.....and then added a yellow wash to it whilst looking at tone and shading. I also found that by mixing the yellow wash with the black it created a muddy yellow which helped illustrate how dark some of the areas were.

I then began to apply black and blue paint to the hoody using a large paint brush since it covered a larger area and I found the textures created very pleasing.

I also started to add a black wash to the picture, therefore highlighting the darker areas even more and adding more depth to my piece.

although I have not finished it yet, I am pleased with it, and have enjoyed trying something different.
